A wonderful George The Third mahogany bureau which once belonged to a world famous racehorse trainer – documentation found in the bureau attests to this. Original finish (but has been cleaned and revived with oils and spirits and slightly waxed) with expected age related wear and tear, historical repairs and minor nibbles – with slightly later handles. Lovely original bracket feet which are intact. Drawer runners have been replaced with oak and all drawers run smooth. The locks are the original cast iron and all present however they are all seized due to the age of the bureau. The fall flap has the lock present, again it doesn’t work, but we have inserted a key for ease of opening the fall flap. New plain green leather has been recently added.
Within the secretaire there are nine drawers, two secret comparments and one secret drawer which is a particularly nice feature. Inside the cabinet is a little cupboard with a working lock and key. There are also five additional drawers offering a huge amount of storage. This is not just a beautiful piece of furniture, it is a sturdy, fantastically made and functioning bureau.
