Late 18th Century Mahogany Clerks’ Desk

A wonderful piece of history, a late 18th century clerks’ desk of pitch pine construction with mahogany veneer to exterior.  As would be expected from a piece which has been extensively used over many, many years, there is lots of wear and tear and signs of use, there are also many rudimentary veneer replacements.  All of which adds to the history of such a lovely item.  The lock is present but there is no key.  Despite its age, the desk’s joints are solid and there is a decent green leather to top with hot foil and blind tooling, also no losses, loose bits or deep gouges.  Original handles are long gone and have been replaced with aged reproductions.  A very large, smooth-running drawer which runs the whole depth of the cabinet.
